Hi Pieter,

You are right. PMD supports classpath, but FindBugs doesn't. Hence the ugly script...

As far as i know, the files defined in excludeFilterFile is searched on the classpath of the plugin.

By define a dependency for the plugin:

     org.apache.maven.plugins
     maven-checkstyle-plugin
     2.1

	...
	...
	...
....

You can use the plugin and reference to a file that is within the dependency specified.

I didnot try this for the findbugs plugin but for the pmd and checkstyle plugin this mechanism works.

So no need for (ugly) ant scripts within the maven file.

If you look at tracking quality of your maven 2 project I recommend Sonar (http://sonar.hortis.ch/). This will work with most of the reports you mention here and provide excellent aggregation of the metrics across time for multiple projects.
